design PROCESS
The design concept presented is one possible solution for the proposed senior community at 77th and Bancroft Senior Housing. It is one idea developed prior to an exploration of the history of place and deep engagement with the Eastmont community.
A collaborative community process will inform the design team of the community’s history, challenges, and opportunities, along with the needs and wishes of its residents. The design ideas explored thus far are based on two foundational concepts, the front yard and an equitable community.
SUSTAINABILITY FEATURES
77th and Bancroft Senior Housing is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring energy-efficient appliances, solar panels, and water-saving fixtures. The development uses green building materials, maximizes natural light, ensures high air quality, and includes landscaped courtyards for connecting with nature. It also prioritizes resilience with cooling systems, air quality filters, backup battery systems, and seismic safety measures. Water conservation techniques and local, low-carbon materials further support a sustainable and adaptable community.
HIRING COMMITMENT
77th and Bancroft Senior Housing's Section 3 hiring commitment focuses on Oakland residents, creating community job opportunities throughout the development process. By providing economic opportunities for local businesses and residents, 77th and Bancroft Senior Housing will alleviate more than just housing pressures in the surrounding community. We support CAHI's (California Affordable Housing Initiatives, Inc.) vision to create high-quality jobs and build a strong community. We will work to involve lower-income households in the construction and management of 77th and Bancroft Senior Housing.
